It usually starts junior year. Someone mentions a list. Someone else mentions a number. Within a month, your family is talking about a school none of you had heard of in September, and a sixteen-year-old who felt just fine in August has decided they're falling behind.
I taught for fifteen years, and I've seen what all that pressure does to a kid who's become convinced they're not measuring up. I've watched families spend what should be one of the most exciting years of their child's life feeling like they're chasing someone else's idea of success.

A different first question
Not "where can you get in?" That question sorts schools by how hard they are to get into, which tells you almost nothing about whether your student will actually be happy once they're there.
The question I start with is different: who is your student, really, and where would that person thrive for four years? Fit isn't the consolation prize for kids who don't land at the top of someone's list. Fit is the whole point. When you start there, the college list builds itself around your child, instead of your child trying to fit themselves around a list.
I'm Meghan.
I trained as a teacher, and my first job was in Human Resources. I worked in training and development at a fast-growing dot-com, running new hire orientation. I was the first face more than two thousand people saw on their very first day, the one who helped them feel welcome and settle in. I knew everyone, and I loved it. That's really where I learned to meet people where they are and help them find their footing.
Then I went back to education and taught for fifteen years, all kinds of different learners. Somewhere in there I had twin girls, who are wrapping up eighth grade now and keeping me on my toes. Every one of those jobs turned out to be the same job. Pay attention to the person in front of you, and help them figure out where they belong.
I started Find Your Path after watching all of this play out in my own family. My brother and nephew were working with an independent educational consultant, and I saw what a difference she made. She took so much stress off their shoulders, and as a calm outside voice, she helped my nephew find a school that really fit him. I couldn't stop thinking about how every family deserves that, and I knew I wanted to be that person for them.
